This FAQ is for players using Arccos without sensors on their clubs.
What is the benefit of using Arccos?
The award-winning Arccos app delivers an unrivaled combination of Automatic Shot Tracking, Rangefinder and Insights – powered by A.I. Custom mapping for over 40,000 courses and Strokes Gained Analytics for every facet of your game to help golfers of all skill levels play smarter and shoot lower scores.
How does automatic shot detection work?
Arccos A.I. has been trained using our industry-leading on-course data set that includes nearly 1 billion shots taken by Arccos members worldwide. This allows our cutting-edge machine learning algorithms to detect your shots simply using your smartphone, which you can carry in any pocket. This happens automatically, so you can focus on playing your best without any distractions like tapping or tagging.
Do I need my phone in my pocket for shot detection?
Yes, your phone must be in any pocket (front or back) to automatically detect each shot.
How can Arccos understand my on-course performance if it doesn’t know what club I hit?
Arccos uses strokes gained analytics to help you understand each facet of your game, which is based on the location from which each shot is taken, rather than the club used. However, we understand that some players want all the data! There are two options for tracking club use:
Option 1: At any point during or after your round, you can use our simple editing feature to select the club used for each shot. Learn more about manual club tagging here.
Option 2: Prior to a round, enable our A.I. club tagging feature (currently in beta). This automatically determines which club you likely used for each shot, and allows you to edit if necessary. To enable, follow these simple steps:
- Tap on the Player tab
- Click on the gear icon (upper right corner)
- Select App Preferences
- Toggle on 'Smart Club Detection"
What are the reasons that Arccos might be missing some of my shots?
While Arccos is the most advanced automatic game tracker, it will occasionally miss shots or place them in an incorrect location. For the best results, ensure that you keep your phone in your pocket when taking each shot. If you continue to have issues, please reach out to starter@arccosgolf.com.
Why are my smart distances not available?
Smart distances require club tagging in order to accurately determine how far you hit each club. If you would like to have Arccos calculate your smart distances, you have two options:

Can I use Arccos Link/Link Pro or my Apple Watch for sensorless shot detection
Not yet, but Arccos is working on supporting all devices - stay tuned!
What are Arccos smart sensors and do I need them to use Arccos?
Arccos smart sensors are small on-club sensors used for shot detection in previous versions of Arccos. Your subscription to Arccos allows you to play with Arccos using only your phone, no sensors on your clubs are required.
Is there an option to use Arccos smart sensors with my membership?
We do not currently support smart sensors with your version of Arccos. If you would like to be notified when the option to use sensors is available, please contact starter@arccosgolf.com and you will be put on a waiting list.
What phones are supported for sensorless shot detection?
At present, this offering is available only for iPhone 12 and newer. Android functionality will be available at a later date.
How long does my trial last?
The trial lasts for 14 days and begins when an account is activated.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Your Arccos subscription is managed by Apple. Please refer to this guide on managing your subscription (https://support.apple.com/en-us/118428).
